Zach’s Run Donates $20,000 to Two

Medical Research Hospitals

Two donations were granted for medical research initiatives at the 2008 Zach’s Run. Making Precious Strides, Inc., the host organization of Zach’s Run, presented checks for $15,000 to the North Carolina Children’s Hospital and $5,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Both hospitals are leading programs that specialize in MPS-related research.

Dr. Joseph Muenzer from the North Carolina Children's Hospital attended the event and accepted the donation.  Dr. Muenzer is one of the doctors leading the MPS II (Hunter Syndrome) research. Proceeds will be used to continue his research program in 2009.

Research and clinical trials have lead to the introduction of Elaprase, an enzyme replacement therapy that has proven to reduce the affects in MPS II patients. More information regarding these research efforts will be posted on our parent site, http://www.makingpreciousstrides.org.
